Looks like EMI and Apple are about to ditch DRM. A lot of people have resisted this for a long time and Microsoft have gone along way down the DRM track with their Palladium model or (Trusted Computing Initiative), which was build on an implicit lack of trust and certainly displayed little initiative.
This highlights the fact that labels like EMI actually make a lot of money from their artists without DRMing their content but, in their eyes, just not enough.
With an all-pervading Internet I wonder if the concept of copyright is viable at all? A lot of people say Information wants to be free and that may be true, but if Music is free how will artists make money? Google Ads?
We may be arriving in an age where Fame & Fortune no longer go hand-in-hand.
